  • Exoskeleton:

  • Advantages: A sturdy graphene exoskeleton, the frame is virtually indestructible. This armature allows Gus to go toe to toewith physically enhanced specials, leap and fall great distances, and overall gives him superhuman strength and durability. As it is made from graphene, the armature on itself does not weight much.

  • Disadvantages: The skeleton protects him well, but underneath the armature, he is still human. The armor is not sealed, so that means noxious gasses or liquids can still get him, as well as any ranged attack.

Augustus looks like he is perpetually drunk or tired from a rough night out, maybe even stoned.
He surely doesn’t appear to have things under control in his life, and the word “unreliable” is the
first thing that comes to mind when you see him.

You could think that, and you would be wrong.

As his military and BOSS record show, actions speak louder than appearance.
His ruthlessness is widely known, as well as his dislike for specials and rather forward approach when
it comes to engagements.
Yes, he might not play by the rules all the time, or care much for personal hygiene, but when shit hits the fan,
he is the guy you want covering your back.
Not against police brutality, he is the type of cop that would bust your wrist and kick you to the ground on a short
notice. While patient, he plans little ahead and acts more on guts and instinct than cold thinking.
He dislikes protocols and bureaucracy greatly infuriates him, being largely known for being behind on paperwork and
coming to office at least twice a month to catch up in a hurry.

Although widely uninterested and perpetually distracted towards most things, Augustus is there when he is needed the
most. Largely a family man, close friends and relatives are what matters the most for him, acting protective and caring for those near him.

He can show kindness to people he deems too weak, and there's nothing he likes more than making them laugh.

Sadly sometimes he can be a bit zoned out, and by sometimes I mean most of the time. While not exactly rich, his
good government salary is often re routed to feed some of his many vices, nights out, booze, smokes and maybe even drugs are a constant when he is off duty.

His apartment is a complete mess, and sports the decoration of someone that uses it more like a place to sleep each now and then than a home.
He thrives in self destructive behaviour, although he manages to keep his record somehow so perfect his superiors have a hard time finding things
to complain about, as he is just
 too damn efficient.
The truth is that Gus battles demons that have been chasing him for a long long time, and finds his job both a way to get back
at specials and repent for his mistakes.
He has a very strong conviction in what he does, and he is ready to risk his life to protect civilians from the threat of Specials.

  • Likes

  • Things that make up his varied vices (alcohol (mostly tequila), cigarettes, etc.)

  • His mama and abuela.

  • A comfy couch to crash on.

  • Playing his drum set.

  • Cars

  • Dislikes

  • Hangovers.

  • Being out of smokes.

  • Specials.

  • Scratches on his car.

  • Paperwork.

  • Background (964 words)

Son of an army veteran and a housemaid, Augusto lived most of his childhood in a very humble neighbor of Puerto Rico. Given, his was
a happy childhood. His dad wasn’t around a lot, but when he was, those were the best years.
He used to play with the other kids, and while none of them had any money, they still would come up with games to play along the beaches of La Perla.

Wounded during the war, his dad returned home after a discharge, setting up shop as a mechanic. Now a teenager,  Augusto learned
a lot about repairing vehicles as he helped his dad with his work, which sprouted his early love for cars.
He juggled  night school, helping his dad and a job  at a bakery all together, as his mom had gotten sick and she could no longer work.
He managed to finish school, though his mother’s health deteriorated more and more, and the medical bills started to pile up,
making it clear their jobs wouldn’t be able to put him through college.

Much to his parent’s dismay, one day he stood up, walked to the nearest recruiter and enlisted.

Joining the army not only gave him money, but allowed to have his mother taken to the mainland, along with his dad, to get properly treated.

He discovered that much like his dad, military life was well suited for him. The order, the discipline and traveling the world were things he did enjoy,
and aside from the risk, he couldn’t complain.
He made most of his best friends during those years fighting in far away lands. Woo’d a few ladies and sooner than later, found himself climbing up ranks.
Somehow, he had become the leader of his own unit, and while leadership came easy to him, having men under his command was not a simple task.

He managed though, kept his unit alive and well, got awarded a few medals and handshakes. He thought he could do this forever, but as it always does, the end came unexpected.

It was during a raid, they were securing a few buildings when he came across a man.
He was in fear, protecting his family from the soldiers that came barging in looking for weapons.
They handcuffed him, pushing his family aside, and were preparing to move him away when his older son pointed at the soldiers with a rifle.
He was barely twelve, and had come out from nowhere. The boy started yelling at them in a  language none spoke well. They were more,
and it was necessary they shoot him.
But Augusto couldn’t do it, he couldn’t bring himself to order his designated marksman in the other room to take out the kid. Instead,
he tried to calm him, talking in his own mother tongue.
The kid became unsure, doubted, and in that moment, Augusto jumped and managed to disarm the boy.
While the kid screamed, the man was taken away. Surely, he had to take the boy too. But again, he decided to take no more from this family,
and returned the kid to his mother among sobs and tears.

He thought that a run in with soldiers would have been enough of a lesson, but he thought wrong.

The kid followed them outside, and as the unit turned around to face him, the boy screamed. His eyes glew, not with hatred, but with an eerie light.
That was the first time Augusto saw a Special in the flesh. Surely, he had read about them in the papers, seen them in the news. But this time, there was one in front of him.
They raised their rifles, shooting the kid as their bullets turned to nothing, dissolving in a heatwave that turned Carlos and Rory into smoking corpses.
The kid moved his hand, and the ground next to Augusto shook, sending him flying towards a wall.

He could not see anymore, only hear his squad screams among explosions as they fought to save their lives.
He awoke a few minutes later, a paramedic checking his eyes with a flashlight.
He was told the entire story afterwards by Fred, one of his soldiers. Carlos and Rory both died immediately, followed by Arthur,
who succumbed to the explosions. Tessa and Alan both got burned, but were out of danger, and Chris was left paraplegic.
That left only him, broken and burnt, in a  hospital bed.

He spent a year of rehab until he managed to walk again, and after that, a honorable discharge.
He returned home, the warm embrace of his parents the only comfort he had left.

With his decommission, a grim determination was born. The second he heard of B.O.S.S. he signed in. He was 24,
and spent the next 8 years of his life fighting Specials wherever they appeared.

He gained fame as a great asset to BOSS, albeit he was also known for being rather unstable. He was assigned Kiel Chatorga as
a trainee in an effort to put him more in line, and somehow, this worked.
Kiel’s more by the book personality and respect for rules served as the perfect counterbalance to Gus’s belligerent attitude.
Although it was fun to see the disheveled drunk next to the slick professional, they formed a formidable duo, who accounted for
many, many arrests and successful missions during their time.

Nowadays the duo has grown into a trio thanks to the addition of Francis “Tank” Langley, a bulky, yet gentle titan whose good natured attitude and
more lenient personality made him almost like a little brother to Gus, which helped him straighten up even more now that there's another rookie under his command.

Yes, he is still disheveled and erratic, but as his record shows, also deadly efficient.

    Trivia

(wtf DA formatting y u do dis)  Only drives when angry.  His apartment is full of crap and really really untidy. He has a cleaning lady that comes once a month but that's not enough.  Would actually help an old lady cross the street.  Would actually push a special old lady into the oncoming traffic. May or Might not have dyed Kiel's hair green.
